Welcome aboard MV Pindito

With over 25 years experience, the MV Pindito is the pioneer of liveaboard diving in Indonesia. Lovingly built to the highest standard, by owner Edi Frommenwiler, and meticulously maintained, Pindito continues to set the standard with her thoughtfully laid out floor plan and smooth sailing. In continuous operation since 1992 the MV Pindito's crew is unmatched for it's diving knowledge and experience in Indonesia. The MV Pindito launched operation in the Banda Sea and quickly expanded her routes to include Raja Ampat, Komodo, Ambon, Alor and many places in between.

The Lounge is the place where everybody meets for meals, shares photos and videos between dives, and socializes. A satellite phone and Email access is 24h available (an extra fee is charged on board).

Also you can enjoy a variety of music and new video releases here, and feel free to plug in your laptop, camcorder or dSLR to view your images on our big screen TV. The Pindito also offers an extensive library to learn about the reefs and fishes you've seen on dives in our Marine Life Library, or curl up with a book between dives. Novels are available on a "take one/leave one" basis.
Relax in the luxury of our teakwood-paneled cabins. Each 10' x 10' cabin is named after a mystical Indonesian island and, depending on your reservation, is appointed either with a twin bed plus an upper bunk, or with a spacious double bed…your choice. All cabins feature newly renovated (June 2017) ensuite with hot and cold running water (vanity and shower as well as toilet), individually controlled air conditioning and five 220v AC electrical outlets (German 2-pole plugs), available 24 hours a day.

Our crew is devoted to your comfort and will attend to your cabin daily, keeping it clean and tidy and providing fresh towels as necessary. Additional towels are available for you on deck as needed.

Pindito offers six double cabins and two twin cabins, creating very comfortable accommodations for up to 16 guests.

Doublebed cabins

All of our double cabins feature individually controlled air conditioning, as well as newly renovated (June 2017) ensuite, appointed with a shower, washbasin and toilet. We will happily add an upper bunk to accommodate a family with one child or two people who just want an extra surface on which to place their gear.

Twinbed cabins

The twin bedded cabins “Ambon” and “Aru” are named after the islands in the Maluku region. Our cabins with one twin bed and a bunk offer more floor space than double cabins. Twin cabins are ideal for single guests — there is no surcharge for booking half a twin cabin. Twin cabins also have newly renovated (June 2017) ensuite, appointed with a shower, washbasin, and toilet.
Camera Room
Photographers and videographers will love the convenience and functionality of the Pindito's camera room, located aft of the Lounge on the Main Deck.

We built the Camera Room with the needs of modern digital underwater photographers and videographers in mind. Here you will find plenty of storage space, professional-grade work areas, and both 220v and 110v AC charging stations at your disposal. We also offer overflow space for photographers on the spacious tables in the salon (please clear for meals) and on the lounge deck when more space is needed for image-makers.

In the salon you will also find the large flat panel television and computer center where you can plug into and watch video and stills created during your dives. And be sure to take advantage of the extensive knowledge base of the ship’s onboard photo and video professionals by asking questions should you have them.

Pindito offers special photo charters during which you can cruise with top underwater photographers. Be sure to ask our booking agent about these special photo and video "Focus" weeks. We offer top pros, like Marty Snyderman, who will work with you hands-on to help you perfect your underwater stills.

If making high-definition video underwater is your focus, top European videographer Edi Frommenweiler and American videographer Clay Wiseman offer high definition (Sony HDCam) and even 4K (Red Cam) broadcast-quality professional production seminars aboard Pindito, during which you can create professional quality reels and video productions. Learn about broadcast video production, using tripod stabilization underwater, maintenance and preparation of your video housing, capturing unique marine life behaviors, and editing your video in Final Cut Pro.
Meals & Drinks
Savor our international cuisine, prepared by expert chefs. The food is influenced by international and above all Indonesian (or Asian) dishes. Breakfast is served in two slots. Continental breakfast before the first dive and a sumptuous breakfast after the first dive.

Lunch and dinner with an Asian flair, featuring meat, fish, and a variety of side dishes. And save room for special sweets and delightful desserts! Between meals, our crew will serve you snacks, including cake and cookies. Tea, coffee, juice, soda and cold water are always available.

After your last dive of the day, alcoholic beverages are available (included). Only wine needs to be ordered in advanced and paid separately.
Diving and Sun Deck
Meet and prepare for your upcoming dive on the Pindito‘s Dive Deck. Take a fresh water shower after the dive, trick-out your dive gear, get help from dive staff, and just hang out before and after dives on the sun deck. A Persenning (sun roof) offers shade during the hot day. Sunbeds are available for all guests.

The dive deck offers enough space for all divers. Each guest receives his own box where he can store his dive gear. On the front of the ship are some hangers where you can hang up your wet gear. For cleaning your gear there are 2 big rinse water tanks available. For Photo- and Videographer there is camera only rinse tank.
There is no better place to take a rest and enjoy the view, then from our sun deck. Recently renovated and expanded in June 2017, this is a huge space with sun loungers where you can get some sun, or hide from it, and watch the world go by. This area is especially perfect for watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets over Indonesia. Another highlight not to be missed, is relaxing under the stars with and unimpeded view of the night sky.

If you want to have special view during the cruise guests have the opportunity to sit on the bow of the ship. Many memorable sun set pictures where made from this outlook.

Dive Operation
Once you've enjoyed a pre-dive continental breakfast you can meet our dive guides on the dive deck. Here you will be given a detailed briefing and shown a graphical representation of the dive site. While you are preparing for your dive, the crew will transfer your gear to the 3 Zodiacs. We load a maximum compliment of 6 divers on each Zodiac (small group diving protects the reef!). There is no need for you to haul your own heavy gear; just climb into the Zodiac and your gear will be waiting for you there. Further, once you explain the particulars of your camera system to your guides - they will make sure that it is delivered to your Zodiac with care and consideration.

After a comfortable, short ride, we'll be ready to dive. If you have back issues, the crew is happy to help you on and off with your tank while you are in the water. For your safety and peace of mind, our well-trained Zodiac drivers will accompany you from a safe and prudent distance during your entire dive. While underwater you can join the guide for a special tour or just do your own thing. The primary focus of our Pindito diving instructors and dive guides is to look after your safety and comfort, they'll keep always an eye out for your safety.

After the dive, refreshments will be waiting for you aboard Pindito. Kick back and chat about your diving experiences and sip a cool beverage while screening a video and sharing photos of your dive.

Typically, we schedule four dives a day depending on crusing and weather conditions:
• Early morning (around 8:00 AM)
• Late morning (around 11:00 AM
• Afternoon (around 3:00 PM)
• After dinner – an exciting dusk or nighttime dive

Pindito’s crew is all about safety and service, and with seventeen crewmembers aboard to serve you, you can look forward to diving with the greatest of ease.
In the unlikely event of an emergency, we always carry a first-aid kit, diver’s oxygen, satellite telephone, VHF Radio, two life rafts, E.P.I.R.B. automatic signaling devices, and other important safety equipment. For safety reasons, we permit no dives on the arrival and departure days, and we serve alcoholic beverages only after your diving day is finished.

Since 2011 the Pindito is in possession of the new Nautilus Lifeline System (emergency and rescue system for diver). This is a ultra compact VHF marine voice radio with GPS that can be operated at the waters surface. The Nautilus Lifeline is also a full featured marine VHF radio with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and GPS that is ready to be used as soon as it is charged via it's USB port. More informations you find here: Nautilus Lifeline System (
Nitrox & Nitroxcourses
For our Nitrox Specialty certified guests, we offer Nitrox (32% oxygen) fills. There is a Nitrox analyzer aboard provided for your use.

We also offer a P.A.D.I. Nitrox Specialty Course. The course will allow you to use Nitrox during the cruise, and you will be provided with a certification card to document your successful completion of the course. Remember choosing to use and training for Nitrox is the diver’s personal decision. Should you choose to do so, you are responsible for planning dives that take into consideration the maximum operating depth (MOD) of the gas mixture as well as oxygen toxicity issues. So, plan carefully and you will reap the benefits of Nitrox diving.

Edi Frommenwiler

Owner and Macro-Videographer

Edi Frommenwiler, is recognized as one of today's best underwater videographers. He's not always onboard and the cruise director takes care of the guests. But if he is on board guests are invited to follow and observe Edi during his video dives and can ask Edi to share footage, stories and his vast knowledge of creating underwater video in Indonesia. If you prefer to be guided during your dive, then please select a group lead by one of the Pindito dive guides.

The Pindito was built according to Edi's specifications in 1991-92 and upgraded based on his ideas and plans in 2006. Edi speaks English, German, and Bahasa Indonesian.
Arlie Haft
Arlie has been diving for over 10 years all over the world. She first came to Indonesia in 2009 and promised to come back. After deciding to change her life and follow her passion for the underwater world, she left the advertising world behind, and came back to Indonesia in 2014 to train as a dive master and shortly after an Instructor. She has now been diving and teaching all over Indonesia. Arlie is passionate about frogfish and unusual underwater critters. When she is not working in diving you can usually find her taking a holiday in an underwater spot she hasn’t yet explored.
Crew onboard
The Pindito's Indonesian crew of 17 is at work to ensure you a secure and comfortable voyage through Indonesia's tropical island paradise.

The crew includes two chefs and two stewards who will constantly attend to your dining and cabin needs.

History and Construction of the Pindito

Construction 1991/1992
The Pindito and the name Edi Frommenwiler go hand in hand. Edi had always dreamed of operating his own business, while working as a travel guide for adventure holidays all around the globe. He could convince his investors about the diving project and the beginning of the conduction of the Pindito was settled.

Together with up to 60 local vessel workers he built the Pindito on a simple shipyard in less than 12 months and the Pindito watered the Indonesian Sea for the first time in March 1992. Ever since the Pindito offers different tours, which are all well known by Edi and his crew, in the various regions of Indonesia, Irian Jaya (Raja Empat), Moluccas, Nusa Tenggara (small Sunda Isles) and around Bali. Several thousand dives, uncountable excursions to islands the fact that Edi lives in Indonesia and speaks the language (Bahasa Indonesia) guarantee that you will have the unforgettable holiday of your life, thanks to him and his experienced crew.
Reconstruction & Renovation 2006
In 2006 the Pindito was due for a complete refit. An additional deck was built for the urgently needed camera room. Since then the Pindito meets even the expectations of the most demanding photographers and videographers with large camera tables and plenty of electricity plugs (110 and 220 volt). The bridge was moved to the top deck. The newly build sun deck is a hit with our guests, especially in the mornings and evenings.

All the cabins and the restaurant area received a complete refit as well. The Pindito certainly belongs into the top league when it comes to the standard and service offered to her guests. Teak wood components in all the cabins and on all the decks give the Pindito a classy appearance.
Renovation 2017
In summer 2017 all cabins as well as the diving deck and the sun deck were renovated.
